(CBS/AP/KEYE) AUSTIN, Texas - A police officer was fatally shot at a Walmart on Friday while responding to a 911 call about an intoxicated man who was roaming around the store, Austin police confirmed.

CBS affiliate KEYE reports the officer went inside the store around 2:30 a.m., approached the male and was immediately engaged in a fight. The man pulled a semi-automatic handgun and shot the officer point-blank in the neck area.

The injured officer was able to radio for help. Acevedo said two Walmart employees then tackled the suspect after the shooting and held him until another police officer arrived. The second officer began CPR. EMS responded but was unable to save the officer.

City Manager Mark Ott also addressed the community regarding the Friday morning shooting and said, "We lost a member of our family."
