PATERSON, N.J. (CBS/AP) A mother is one of three people accused of cutting her 7-year-old daughter, and making her watch animal sacrifices as part of a religious ritual in northern New Jersey.

WCBS New York reports the girl's nude body was doused with cold water as she was forced to watch a goat and chickens being sacrificed.

When police searched the Paterson, NJ home, they reportedly uncovered a shrine, religious statues, bones, machetes, dolls and sticks with numbers and names on them.

Police say the religious ritual practiced on the child was palo mayombe, considered one of the most powerful and feared forms of "black magic."

The three suspects are charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say the ritual was performed on the child in May.

The ritual is considered one of the most powerful and feared forms of black magic.
