Yes, Virginia, the police saved Thanksgiving!

RICHMOND, Va. -- After thieves took 11 turkeys and fixings that a Virginia community association planned to serve to the needy on Thanksgiving, police in Richmond put out a call on Facebook seeking donations.

The response more than made up for the fowl lost by the Fairfield Court Community Association on Nov. 20, reports CBS affiliate WTVR.

Less than two days later, more than 40 turkeys had been donated, including 10 delivered by one man alone.

"I actually got a phone call from a man out in Austin, Texas," Richmond Police Lt. Jody Blackwell told WTVR. "He wouldn't take no for an answer."

When Lt. Blackwell presented the donations Sunday to Joanne Towles, who is in charge of the association's Thanksgiving food service.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Towles said through tears. "Ya'll just don't know how good I feel right now."

Police are still looking for the turkeys who stole the turkeys.
