Vandals in Calif. rip American flags before parade, report says

Vandalized American flags in Turlock, Calif. CBS Sacramento

(CBS) TURLOCK, Calif. - Vandals reportedly caused approximately $500 worth of damage to about a dozen flags that were put up for a big Fourth of July parade in Turlock, Calif., CBS Sacramento reports.

According to the station, residents and workers had to scramble to repair the flags in time for the parade.

Dana McGarry, of the Turlock Property Owners Association, told the station, "There's just something wrong about it. What kind of people do that? I don't know."

The station reports this is not the first time this has happened in Turlock. In the past, flags and poles were stolen within 24 hours of being on display. This time the poles were screwed into place.

Police had reportedly increased patrols in the downtown area to assure that nobody damaged the flags before the parade.
