Cunningham, 21, and Mary Essa, 19, are accused of giving their classmates and a professor the baked goods last Friday without saying what was inside. Eight people got sick with three needing hospital care.
Cunningham, who bonded out of jail Monday night, walked into court with his mother without saying anything, CBS Denver reports.
Since his arrest on Saturday, Cunningham has been expelled from the university and his parents are looking to take him home to Fort Worth, Texas, before his next court date.
Cunningham is facing eight second-degree assault charges, eight charges of inducing consumption of controlled substance by fraudulent means, and two counts of conspiracy.
He is due back in court at the end of January.
Essa is scheduled to hear the charges against her in court on Thursday, Dec. 13, CBS Denver reports.
