Two arrests made in Dallas Subway restaurant murder
DALLAS - Two men were arrested nearly two months after the fatal June shooting of a Subway restaurant employee in Dallas, reported CBS DFW.
Leonard Ortega, 28, was locking up the restaurant in June when two masked men walked in and demanded cash. According to police, the men cleaned out the register and one of robbers got into a struggle with Ortega before shooting him.
According to the station, anonymous tips led to the arrest of Christopher Miller, 35, who later confessed to the crime. He then identified Anderson Jones, 37, as the shooter.
A third suspect, allegedly the lookout, remains at large.
Both Miller and Jones now face capital murder charges.
Family of Ortega told the station that he was a long-time employee of Subway and was happy there. According to the station, Ortega was a talented writer and artist.
"I don't understand why someone so harmless and thoughtful and (a) passionate person -- his life is gone because somebody wanted some money," sister Vanessa Ortega told CBS DFW. "Money should never ever come between somebody's life, especially when they have families."
Ortega's Subway co-workers said that it has been hard, even "scary" coming to work the past two months knowing that the suspects had not been caught. "It was not easy," Yesenia Beas told the station, "but it was easier today."
