U.S. Olympic sailor missing off Florida coast

MIAMI -- The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife officers continue to search for an Olympic sailor whose boat was found abandoned just off Dinner Key Marina Thursday night, CBS Miami reports.

The 15-foot boat was found tangled in some moorings. On the boat were personal belongings of 2012 Olympic sailor Trevor Moore.

Moore, however, was no where to be found. Among the items found in the boat were a life jacket and a GPS. CBS Miami reports a source said that the GPS showed that the boat reduced speed by Soldier Key, south of Stiltsville, and ziz zagged back to where it came from. It's believed that Moore was off the boat at that time.

The U.S. Sailing Team posted a picture of the 30-year-old Moore:

"It's my understanding that he is a very experienced boater," said the FWC's Liz Barraco. "We are really just hoping for the best."

An MH-65 helicopter and a smallboat crew from Station Miami Beach, Florida, have been searching for Moore throughout the night, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

CBS Miami reports, by early Friday afternoon, eleven vessels and two helicopters had searched 180 square miles.

"It's calm seas. The wind is light out of the east, pushing everything from the shore. The search is confined to Biscayne Bay. A lot of people are looking for him and we hope to find him," said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Commander Gabe Somma.

Moore's fiancee, Libby Patton, post on her Facebook page Friday morning: "PRAYERS: My fiancé and best friend, Trevor Moore, is missing after a boat ride In coconut grove this afternoon. His boat was found this evening-still in gear- by a small island close to shore. please pray for Trevor."
