Tiffani Thiessen to present at Shorty Awards

USA Network/Nigel Parry

(CBS News) Actress Tiffani Thiessen joins the ranks of the social media savvy. We know her best in her role as Kelly Kapowski in the 1990s hit show "Saved by the Bell," but now Twitter has a new champion. The "White Collar" star will be presenting an award at the fourth annual Shorty Awards in New York on March 26.

A spokesperson for the Shorty Awards confirmed with me over the phone that Thiessen will be presenting, however, it isn't clear for which category yet.

The Daily Show's Samantha Bee and Jason Jones will be hosting the award ceremony this year.

The Shorty Awards honors the best of social media, with an emphasis on Twitter users. Examples of award categories range from the typical best #Actor, #Actress or #Band to quirkier categories, like best #FakeAccount, #FanSite and @HealthJoinIn's #SocialFitness.

This year's celebrity nominees include Ian Somerhalder, Justin Bieber and Tom Felton. Journalists, comedians and activists also get some recognition.

But, it's not all about Twitter. There are special categories like real-time photo of the year, which include some of last year's most memorable images. Followers of the Occupy movement will remember the police officer pepper-spraying U.C. Davis students at a protest.

Foursquare is also getting some recognition with some famous mayors getting a nod, like actual New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and Steve Wozniak, who is the Foursquare mayor of an International House of Pancakes in Santa Clara, Calif.

Nominees are chosen by votes via tweets at the Shorty Award's website and the winners are chosen from the top six by the Real-Time Academy. A full list of nominees is available at the Shorty Awards website. Past winners have included Conan O'Brien and Neil Patrick Harris.

The award ceremony can be watched live at ShortyAwards.com on March 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
