"The X Factor" eliminates hopefuls, unveils contestant categories

Wednesday night's "X Factor" episode saw the boot camp finale round, which helped weed out contestants.

"We've put them through a lot, it's the moment of truth," Simon Cowell said at the start of the show.

A batch of hopefuls were sent home, which means only 24 contenders remain. Each of them is one step close to a $5 million contract. On Wednesday, the remaining contenders also learned that they would be competing in a series of categories: Teens, Young Adults, Over 25s and Groups.

Judge Britney Spears landed the Teens category, and she was thrilled about the pairing. "This is amazing," she said.

Demi Lovato will coach the Young Adults. "I got the best group. I am 20 and in the middle of that age group," Lovato said.

Simon Cowell will mentor the Groups, while L.A. Reid got the Over 25 gang, a match he wasn't happy about. He stormed off after finding out.

Special mentors were introduced too, including Justin Bieber, Marc Anthony and Nick Jonas. The remaining contestants had the chance to visit the judges' homes for some extra coaching and personal attention.

When "The X Factor" returns Thursday, members of the Teen group and Over 25 category will perform for their mentors.
