The First Modern 3D Porn Film Could Be A Smash -- On Mobile Devices

Brace yourself -- Kama-sutra, the first modern 3D porn film, is on its way. While director Marc Dorsel and other adult industry big-wigs may have dreams of Avatar-like big budget openings, pornographers are going to have to think small to thrive in the new new media. In other words, Kama-sutra and future titles like it will have the biggest impact -- and the most revenue -- on mobile devices.

First, Gizmodo's Jesus Diaz:

The first 3D porn full feature film made for modern stereoscopic TVs-those that use shutter eyeglasses-has arrived... Called Kama-sutra, it stars Brigitte Lahaie. Dorcel thinks that not all porn will be 3D, however. Some people will like it, others will prefer good old 2D. Being a fan of 8mm porn from the 60s, I agree.

The new movie is more Avatar than Alice in Wonderland. It doesn't include women painted in blue -- thankfully -- but it uses actual 3D cameras and not 2D-to-3D post-processing -- thankfully.

The problem? The Web is essentially dead to profitable porn. Pornography conglomerates are suing YouTube-inspired websites, a la the music industry a decade ago, and top performers are seeing their rates fall by half or two-thirds.

Fortunately for them, the fertile mobile space is pushing 3D hard:

This week the controversial Sex.com domain was finally approved for sale, but it's probably at its least valuable moment in the industry. The future of profitable pornography, and particularly 3D pornography, is in the consumer's hands.
