Texas mom allegedly tried to kill hospitalized son
HOUSTON - A Houston-area woman charged with attempting to kill her hospitalized 5-month-old son has also come under scrutiny in the 2013 death of her toddler daughter in Mississippi.
Harris County jail records show 19-year-old Cynthia Wood of Galena Park was being held Thursday on a charge of attempted capital murder. Her bond is $250,000. Court records show Wood has denied harming the infant boy.
Prosecutors say security video from Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital shows Wood on Oct. 12 putting her hand over the boy's mouth. A nurse allegedly spotted Wood.
The boy, who was initially hospitalized for breathing trouble, was resuscitated. He's in the custody of Child Protective Services along with his 5-year-old sister.
Authorities have not released the video, which prompted Houston police to review the death of Wood's 1-year-old daughter, Madilynn, in Jackson, Miss., presumably of natural causes.
CBS affiliate KHOU reports Wood told investigators at the time that the child died after suffering seizures.
