Texas man arrested in attack that killed one, hurt two others

SPLENDORA, Texas - A man who witnesses say killed another man and hurt two other people in a fit of rage was arrested Sunday on charges of murder and aggravated assault, according to CBS affiliate KHOU.

A police official says the suspect, 44-year-old John Eric Holder, found his ex-girlfriend staying at a female friend's house north of Houston Saturday and tried to see her. He had allegedly forced his way into the home in Splendora, Texas and ran to his truck when the homeowner went to grab her gun.

While outside, Holder was then approached by two men, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He then allegedly sped towards the two men - hitting both - and then backed over them, witnesses say. The woman Holder had come to see was allegedly struck on the back of the head with a tire iron by Holder, Sheriff's Sgt. John Schmitt told KHOU.

Holder then began hitting the two men with the object, he added, and then fled the property. He was later detained by sheriff's deputies, according to the station.

One of the men, 26-year-old James Kierman, later died from the injuries sustained in the incident. The other man and the suspect's ex-girlfriend were treated at a local hospital.

Holder told deputies that he was at the scene, Sgt. Schmitt said.
