Teen on bicycle shot dead in Philadelphia, second boy injured

PHILADELPHIA -- A teenage boy is dead after more than a dozen shots were fired at him and another teen on bicycles Sunday in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia, CBS Philly reports.

Police said two male teens, 16 and 15, were riding their bikes when two men in a sedan pulled up and got out of their car. Police Captain Nicholas Brown said that the teens turned around on their bikes but that "two males...began shooting at them," according to the station.

One teen was shot in the center of his back and the other fled, and was not hit.

Patrol officers nearby heard the commotion and responded. They found the 16-year-old lying in the street. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, CBS Philly reported.

Police said the gunmen fired 17 shots before driving off, according to the station.

There was no a clear motive for the attack, though Cptn. Brown floated the possibility that there may have been some exchange between the bicyclists and the two gunmen before the shooting.
