Teen killed dogs because mom wouldn't give him $20, police say

HUNTINGTON, Texas -- An East Texas teenager has been charged with opening fire and killing his family's dogs after his mother refused to give him $20.

Angelina County Sheriff's deputies on Monday afternoon were summoned to the family's home and arrested a 17-year-old. Investigators say teen became upset when his mother refused to give him cash, so he picked up a rifle and allegedly shot the family's three pit bulldogs.

Authorities say two dogs were dead at the scene. The third dog was wounded and had to be euthanized.

The Sheriff's Office says the shooter faces misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

Online jail records Wednesday did not list him as still being in custody.
