Super slow motion pistol shrimp attack is explosive

(CBS News) It's said that big things come in small packages. And that idiom could not be more true than in the case of the pistol shrimp, whose very tiny frame has the ability to do one of the biggest and most explosive attacks in all of nature. See it for yourself in super slow motion above.

The rare peek into the devastating underwater attack was created by Earth Unplugged, who have been featured on The Feed many times now with slow motion looks at nature, and who write about their latest:

Despite its size the pistol shrimp packs a serious punch. One mighty claw shuts so fast it rips apart water, making a stunning implosion and one of the loudest noises in the ocean. It's the fastest thing the team have filmed, so they're cranking up the frame rate! Si and Sam try to uncover just what goes on over that tiny timeframe.

A very visual, insightful and educational piece that has earned Earth Unplugged another round of applause from us here at The Feed. And to check out more work from Earth Unplugged, be sure to see our previous posts on them by clicking here or you can go to their YouTube page by clicking here.
