Student playing with gun shoots classmate at elementary school

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Officials in Georgia say n elementary school student suffered minor injuries after being accidentally shot by a classmate playing with a gun.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning at Hornsby Elementary School in Augusta. Richmond County School Board spokesman Kaden Jacobs says a student brought the weapon to school and was "playing with the gun inside a desk. It was an accidental discharge."

School officials say the gunshot grazed another female student, who was treated at a hospital and released, CBS affiliate WRDW reported.

According to a School Board statement, the male student who brought the gun to school is in police custody. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Jacobs declined to name the students and would not give their ages or grade level.
