Strong Earthquake Strikes India-Myanmar Border

NEW DELHI (AP) - A strong earthquake has hit along the India's border with Myanmar. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 6.4-magnitude temblor 50 miles (85 kilometers) from the Indian town of Imphal in the far eastern state of Manipur. It was felt in the nearby state of Assam, where residents of the capital Gauhati rushed outdoors.

The border region is remote and sparsely populated, more than 250 miles (400 kilometers) from the Myanmar city of Mandalay.

The quake struck Friday night at a depth of 55 miles (90 kilometers).
