Somali Militants Launch New Campaign

Somalia's Shabaab Mujahideen Movement announced a new military campaign under the title "No Peace without Islam" in a statement distributed on militant Islamist websites today. According to the statement, the campaign which was put in place in order to avenge the death of the group's leader Adam Ayro, will last for around a month. The group once again rejected the agreement signed between the Islamic Court Unions led by Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the transitional government in Djibouti. It also assured that the campaign will be a decisive one in the fight against the "apostates" and their allies in Somalia. The group heralded the campaign with an attack on the presidential palace in Mogadishu, which the statement claims killed 16 guards.
