Shooting reported near Fort Sam Houston, Texas, woman hit, suspect in custody

(CBS) SAN ANTONIO - A man opened fire and shot a woman near Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on Monday afternoon, and was taken into custody, according to CBS affiliate KENS.

Brent Boller, spokesman for the Joint Base San Antonio, said a man with a gun was seen at Fort Sam Houston gate. Butler told the station he heard people reporting that shorts were fired around 3 p.m. 

The station reported that one victim was being rolled on a stretcher to an ambulance around 3:15 p.m. today and was transferred to the San Antonio Military Medical Center.

According to KENS, officers were seen searching the area in search of the suspect. A man was reportedly captured and placed in a police car around 3:45 p.m.

A witness said, "The suspect came out of the wood line, had his hands up and didn't put up a fight when cops came up on him," he said.
