Shooting outside Pa. YMCA was murder-suicide

WEST BRANDYWINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Authorities say a shooting outside a Pennsylvania YMCA was a murder-suicide, reports CBS Philadelphia.

The victim worked as a fitness instructor and the mother of two children. She was shot and killed Monday night in the parking lot of the West Brandywine Township YMCA where she worked, by a man who police say she had a relationship with.

About 40 kids and parents huddled inside after the shots were fired, while lifeguards stood in front of the windows to protect the crowd, CBS Philadelphia reports.

"We kept all families back in a corner, away from all the windows towards the door," Lifeguard Carley Stutzman said.

Police say the man shot and killed himself as they were arriving to the scene.

"One of the sweetest and most caring people you will ever meet in your whole life. She was very motherly to everybody," Sutzman said.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said the shooter planned the attack in advance.

"The exact details of what he did we are not releasing yet, but this was not anything that this woman ever would have seen coming," Hogan said.

The identities of the mother and the shooter have not been released yet.
