(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - An autopsy has  revealed that a 14-year-old girl found charred and naked on a Brooklyn beach died of "homicidal asphyxiation."

The body of Shaniesha Forbes was found on Gerritsen Beach on Jan. 6, 2013.

The finding of  homicidal asphyxiation includes suffocation and smothering, according to medical examiners.

CBS New York reports community leaders are asking people to come forward if they have any information regarding Forbes' murder. Advocate Tony Herbert said, "If you have information and are holding it, then you are just as guilty as the person or those who committed this heinous crime, so we truly need your help to give this family closure with a serious dose of justice."

Forbes was a student at the Academy for Young Writers in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.
