Seattle Symphony quartet surprises delayed passengers with concert

Normally, when a flight gets delayed, passengers can expect little more than snacks and water to bide the extra time.

For a group aboard a delayed Alaska Airlines flight to Palm Springs, they got a free concert from some of the best classical musicians in the country.

Members of the Seattle Symphony surprised passengers when their string quartet broke out their instruments and played an impromptu concert while waiting to take off.

Passenger Addie Bogart, who caught the concert on film, told KING 5 news: "(It) made everyone's night! It almost made us forget we were two hours late to Palm Springs."

The quartet - violinists Mikhail Shmidt and Elisa Barston, violist Susan Gulkis Assadi and cellist Walter Gray - was on its way to play two benefit concerts, KING 5 news reports.

It was a good week for the Seattle Symphony, which won a Grammy Award on Sunday for best contemporary classical composition.
