Search underway for Fla. teen who vanished from boat

Ft. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A search is underway for a Florida teen who vanished Friday morning from the boat where she lived with her father, apparently leaving most of her personal belongings - including her shoes - behind.

Shaina McBride, 14, was last seen around 9 a.m. Aug. 15 when she left the boat where she lived in the area of Isle of Venice and Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, reports CBS Miami.

Her father, David McBride, insists that she didn't run away and fears the worst.

"Something happened when she walked off that boat that changed the whole outcome of what happened. We don't know what that something was," said McBride.

The teen reportedly left her cell charger, clothes, shoes, toothbrush and purse, reports the station.

"She didn't take clothes or a toothbrush which says this child did not positively, did not decide when she walked off that boat that she was going anywhere," David McBride told the station.

Shaina McBride is active in her church, reports the station. Now, fellow churchgoers are passing out fliers in an attempt to help locate the teen.

"Just very bizarre to me she had no shoes, her purse and everything is there, terrified something really bad has happened to her," a family friend, Doneille Kazim, told the station.

McBride is described as five feet, six inches tall, around 145 pounds, with blonde hair and green eyes.

If you have any information on McBride's location, contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS or Fort Lauderdale Police Department at (954) 764-HELP.
