(CBS News) Ridley Scott has suspended production on his latest film following the apparent suicide of his younger brother, filmmaker Tony Scott.

The director was shooting "The Counselor" in London when he learned of his brother's death, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and decided to halt filming for the week and travel to Los Angeles to be with his family.

Scott arrived in Los Angeles on Monday and was seen the next day stopping at the office he shared with his brother, E! Online reports. A source told E! that he arrived there at around 10:30 a.m. and stayed until around 2 p.m.

Tony Scott, who directed films including "Top Gun" and "Unstoppable," died Sunday after jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles, authorities said. He was 68.

His family has denied a report that he was suffering from inoperable brain cancer before his death.

Notes to loved ones were left behind, coroner's officials said. The death is being investigated as a probable suicide, but a formal determination could take a month or more as toxicology and tissue tests are completed.
