​Police: Dad in Conn. hot car death parked at work

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Connecticut police say the father of a 15-month-old boy who died after being left in a car on a hot day had parked his vehicle at his job with his son inside.

Ridgefield police say the father drove his son to the hospital after finding the boy in the vehicle.

Ridgefield Capt. Jeff Kreitz says the boy had been left inside the car Monday for an "extended period of time." Police say they're still trying to determine the exact amount of time.

Authorities say the cause of death has yet to be determined. Police say Danbury Hospital staff reported the death and 911 dispatchers received no calls about it.

The family, not publicly identified, lives in Ridgefield on the New York state line. The temperature approached 90 degrees in western Connecticut on Monday.

Police would not say whether anyone was facing charges, CBS Hartford affiliate WFSB-TV reports.

Officials from the state Department of Children and Families were notified about the incident, WFSB-TV reports. DCF officials said they have opened a case on the incident based on information provided by police.
