Cops: Girl, 14, finds mother murdered in Ohio backyard

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio--Police are investigating a woman's death as a homicide after her 14-year-old daughter discovered her body yesterday in the family's backyard, reports CBS affiliate 19 Action News.

Police say 40-year-old Amanda Russell was found Thursday afternoon.

The teen "discovered her mother laying in the back portion of the driveway, and she was frightened to go out there so she called police," said Lt. Gary Merton, a detective with CFPD.

Russell had last used her cell phone about 90 minutes before she was found, according to 19 Action News.

The girl knew something was wrong when her mother didn't pick her up from school, reports the Northeast Ohio Media Group, which obtained the girl's panicked 911 call.

She found her mother bleeding on the ground near a backyard fence, according to the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

The dispatcher asked the girl to see if her mother was conscious, but Russell did not wake up.

Police released few details about how Russell was killed.

"She has wounds, but to get into anything more specific right now, I won't do that," Merton said, reports the station.

Merton said it didn't appear to be a domestic incident, though the murder "wasn't random."
