Recover Your Outlook Data After a Hard Drive Crash or PC Failure

Most of the time, everything on your PC just more or less works, and that's the way things should be. But your e-mail and calendar -- essentially, all of the stuff in Outlook -- is simply too critical to trust to good karma. What happens if your hard drive fails? Do you have a reliable backup? If not, I've got a tool you'll want to keep around just in case.

The simply (and aptly) named Outlook Repair is a free utility that can recover and restore your Outlook PST and OST data files, even on a hard drive that has been damaged or formatted.

I gave Outlook Repair a shot on an old, damaged hard drive that I keep around for testing data recovery tools, and Outlook Repair didn't disappoint. It requires no geeky knowledge to use; the wizard starts working in about 2 clicks, and it apparently performs a very thorough, low-level scan of the drive to root out your Outlook data. It successfully found my Outlook 2003 PST on my test drive, for example, which otherwise proved inaccessible.

Outlook Repair works with Outlook 2003, 2007, and 2010, and is a good tool to keep around for those catastrophic moments when your drive fails and you have no serviceable backup of your mission-critical mail. [via AddictiveTips]
