Prostitutes charging $620 an hour at Cannes Film Festival

A new French law is not stopping people from soliciting prostitutes at Cannes.

The law, enacted April 13, criminalizes the purchase of sex without punishing the prostitutes, putting the onus on the clients.

But business is booming in Cannes, per the Hollywood Reporter. One escort told the publication that she has even attended a red-carpet premiere and several parties as part of "the girlfriend experience" she provides for 550 euros ($620) an hour.

"We have a night service that monitors any activity. You will not find any street prostitution in downtown Cannes," Pierre Boutillon, deputy director of the municipal police, told THR. " But at hotels, "even the security doesn't know what is happening in the rooms. It's hard for us to check that when you have modern prostitution with internet and cellphones."

Clients are reportedly half French and half foreign.
