Pro-Gingrich super PAC goes animated to attack Romney

The pro-Newt Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future plans to run a series of ads in South Carolina hitting front-runner Mitt Romney leading up to that state's primary on Saturday. The group, run by Republican fundraiser Becky Burkett and employs former Gingrich aid Rick Tyler, posted the first ad (shown left) on You Tube.

Called "Obama's Dream Debate," it uses animated characters participating in a debate to show the similarities between Mitt Romney and President Obama. In the ad, Mr. Obama is asked by the moderator to differentiate himself from Romney, who then proceeds to list ways they are similar. "I agree with Governor Romney on many things," a computer generated version of President Obama says before he lists topics including abortion, guns and health care.

Gingrich is working to frame himself as the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney and best suited to go toe-to-toe against Mr. Obama in the general election.

Tuesday Gingrich told "CBS This Morning" that he is working to "convince wavering voters that I would be much better at defeating Barack Obama because I am so much more effective at communicating conservatism in a debate setting."

Winning Our Future, a super PAC which can accept unlimited contributions, cannot legally coordinate with the Gingrich campaign.
