(CBS) Whether you loved it or hated it, Princess Beatrice's hat was one of the most-talked-about toppers at Prince William and Catherine's April 29 wedding.

Now, she is auctioning off the Philip Treacy hat for a good cause, according to her mother, Sarah Ferguson.

"She's putting it up on eBay to auction it for UNICEF and for children in crisis," the Duchess of York told Oprah Winfrey during an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Wednesday, according to People.

Beatrice wore the unusual hat, along with a dress and coat from Valentino Haute Couture, to her cousin's wedding last month, where it quickly became an Internet sensation. The topper was ridiculed online, has its own Facebook fan page and has been Photoshopped atop the heads of Miss Piggy, Chewbaca and even President Obama and his national security team.

Treacy creations were seen at the royal wedding atop the heads of Princess Eugenie, Victoria Beckham and Zara Phillips, among others.

The Daily Mail reports that the famed milliner's designs usually sell for around 2,000 British pounds (about $3,300).

Treacy told HollywoodLife.com that he didn't receive any royal input when he designed Beatrice and Eugenie's hats.

"My inspiration was beauty and elegance; it's a 21st century royal wedding," he said. "They didn't tell me [what they wanted] because I've known them for a long time and I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful. They trusted me to make them. Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation ... I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn't."
