Police: Suspected serial killer's victims included his father

HOUSTON -- One of the three charred bodies found buried in a Houston warehouse this week was the suspect's father, according to Houston police. According to CBS affiliate KHOU, detectives say Jamie Walter, 27, is a serial killer who has confessed to killing two men and probably killed his father, Steven Walter.

According to the station, investigators believe Walter may also be linked to a fourth victim who was murdered last year. Detectives say it was a similar crime in the same area as the warehouse.

Walter appeared in a Houston courtroom early Thursday morning to face a capital murder charge. The station reports that he was quiet, and showed little emotion, only speaking when he requested a court-appointed lawyer.

Police found the three bodies in a warehouse off Todd street in northwest Houston. Detectives were back at the scene Thursday to search with a cadavar dog.

According to the Houston station, court documents revealed that prosecutors said both Monty Kaiser and Donald Fleming died after being attacked with a hammer, and they were allegedly homeless friends of the suspect.

Originally, investigators came to the warehouse because Walter was fighting with his girlfriend. When police arrived at the scene, they were told about the human remains that were on the abandoned warehouse property.

Houston police were told about two homeless men that lived there and have been missing for months, KHOU reported. The remains were burned and apparently then moved and buried at another location on the property.

According to the station, police believe some of the bodies may have been in the warehouse since April, and they said that Walter's father was killed and dumped there in June.

In July, Walter was charged with smashing his girlfriend's skull with a hammer and attacking her with a machete, reports the station.

Walter remains in jail without bond.
