Police searching for missing Kansas baby

WICHITA, Kan. -- Police conducted a search along railroad tracks and a wooded area near the Wichita suburb of Derby, Kansas, Monday afternoon for a baby boy who was last seen with his father.

Police released information about Vincent Moore's disappearance on Friday, according to CBS affiliate KWCH. They also told reporters that the child's mother, Michelle Mendez, reported him missing last Thursday, telling police that the 4-month-old boy and another 2-year-old child were with their father for visitation beginning June 5.

Police records identified the father as 24-year-old Gary Moore, Jr., according to the station.

Mendez told KWCH she tried to contact Moore after a few days, but she was unable to reach him or the children.

Police say Moore did not bring back the children and took them to Texas before returning to Wichita on July 9. On July 11, Moore was reportedly seen leaving a home with Vincent, and the child has not been seen since.

The father was arrested July 29 on unrelated warrants. A 2-year-old was with him but Vincent was not. The 2-year-old has since been returned to the mother, according to the Wichita Eagle.

Police told CBS affiliate KWCH that the next day, a 24-year-old woman contacted them regarding Vincent's whereabouts. Since then, law enforcement officers have spoken to family and friends who provided differing accounts, Captain Jeff Weible told the station.

A search began Monday near 55th Street South and K-15, Wichita police confirmed to The Associated Press. The Wichita Eagle reported that police received information that led to K-9 units along with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department being called in to support the search.

Three hours later, the search wrapped up, according to the newspaper. An official would not comment on what they were looking for.

The father was being held on an $850,000 bond as of Monday, according to the paper.

Anyone with information about Vincent's whereaboutsis asked to contact the Wichita Police Department at 316-268-4182, Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or 911.
