Police: Parents left kids in car while they gambled in casino

NEW YORK -- Two children were allegedly locked in an SUV while their parents visited a New York City casino, reports CBS New York.

Maria Loha and Segundo Japa were arrested Saturday after concerned security guards at the Resorts World Casino noticed that the couple's two daughters, ages 6 and 8, were locked in the car for more than an hour, according to police.

Police officers managed to get the car's doors open, and the girls reportedly identified their parents, according to police.

The sisters were taken to a nearby hospital, but were unharmed in the incident. They are now in the custody of child protective services, CBS New York reports.

Loha, 33, and Japa, 34, were arrested and have been charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.
