Police: Ex-N.C. teacher had sexual relationship with student
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Police arrested a former Cumberland County teacher Monday after they alleged she was having a sexual relationship with a student, according to CBS affiliate WRAL.
Laura Garrigus was charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a student and two counts of sexual offense with a student, according to the station.
In December, a 17-year-old female student who attends the Cumberland International Early College High School reportedly told authorities that she had been involved in a physical relationship with Garrigus since October.
The 30-year-old later resigned that month, Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Frank Till told CBS affiliate WRAL.
Till told the station that the alleged relationship had occurred off-campus and no other students were thought to be involved.
Garrigus was being held in the Cumberland County jail under a $16,000 secured bond and is expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon, according to WRAL.
