Police Chase 7-Year-Old Driver

VIDEO COURTESY OF KSTU SALT LAKE CITY

WEBER COUNTY, UTAH (CBS/AP) As far as police dash-cam videos go, the situation that unfolded in Weber County, Utah seemed straightforward enough. A white sedan refused to pull over and its driver led police on a chase throughout the county that ended with the driver jumping out of the car.

But when the car door opened, police were shocked to see a 7-year-old boy jump out of the driver's seat and take off running.

Weber County Sheriff's Department Captain Klint Anderson said two deputies caught up with the boy and tried unsuccessfully to stop the car. The incident occurred about 45 miles north of Salt Lake City.

The car reached 40 miles-per-hour before the boy stopped in a driveway and ran inside a home. At times, the boy exhibited some very skilled driving.

Police said the boy, when confronted by his father, admitted that he stole his parent's car in an effort to avoid going to church.

The boy is too young to prosecute and no citations were issued, although police did urge the father to make his car keys a bit harder to find.
