Police: Arrest in alleged attack on girl riding Phila. trolley

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a man has surrendered in the attack on a 17-year-old girl riding a Philadelphia trolley, CBS Philly reported.

Authorities say 40-year-old Damon Oliver turned himself in to police Wednesday morning in the assault one week earlier in which the victim was punched in the face, and suffered injuries including a broken nose.

According to the station, the teen said she was attacked after she accidentally bumped the man with her backpack. She was on her way to school.

She was treated for her injuries at a local hospital and released.

Authorities say Oliver is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

CBS Philly reports the suspect has a lengthy criminal history, citing court documents that show he was arrested in 1994 for aggravated assault, and convicted; he pleaded guilty to simple assault after a 2003 arrest; and he pleaded guilty to simple assault following a 2006 arrest.
