Plane under contract to U.S. military lands in Iran due to flight plan mix-up

A commercial airliner under contract to the U.S. military and carrying defense contractors - some of them American citizens - from Bagram to Dubai has been forced to land at an airfield in southern Iran, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reported.

Martin reports that this is a routine flight path from Bagram Air Field to Dubai but the plane had left several hours late from Bagram and when it entered Iranian air space, it was told it hadn't filed a flight plan and would have to land.

A U.S. official told CBS News the Fly Dubai charter plane was re-routed "because of a bureaucratic issue."

"Contrary to press reports, this plane was not forced down by the Iranian military," the official said. "The issue appears to have been resolved and hopefully the plane will be able to take off soon."

After being grounded for several hours, the flight took off and resumed its trip to Duba, Fly Dubai confirmed in a statement to Reuters.
