Peyton Manning "looks great" throwing, WR says

(CBS News) As the Peyton Manning sweepstakes unfolds, two questions hover: 1) Where will the four-time league MVP sign? 2) Is he healthy and still an elite quarterback?

While the answer to the first question remains a mystery, at least one former teammate has answered the second. Manning "looks great" throwing the football, according to wide receiver Brandon Stokley.

Stokely, who played with the QB in Indianapolis from 2003-2006, made his assessment after catching about 50 passes from Manning Saturday morning in Castle Rock, Colo., according to the Denver Post.

"I'll put whatever reputation I have on the line behind that guy right now. He looks great," Stokley told the newspaper.

Manning was in Denver talking to the Broncos, one of several teams the free agent quarterback has met with after being released from the Colts last week. Manning has also had talks with the Cardinals and Dolphins and is slated to meet with the Titans later Tuesday, ESPN reported.

Stokley, a free agent, said he also saw Manning in action at Duke University when the QB was rehabbing under the tutelage of Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe (who coached Manning at the University of Tennessee).

"I saw him for three days at Duke and he was the only quarterback (throwing to four or five receivers)," Stokley told the Post. "He threw a ton of balls for three straight practices and the guy looked to me like he did when I was there six years ago."

If Manning is indeed the same player as he was six years ago, that bodes well for the team that lands him - in the 2006-07 season, Manning led the Colts to a Super Bowl title.
