Reports first surfaced in January that Martinez, 46, and Berry, 45, who co-starred in the film "Dark Tide," had gotten engaged. At the time, a rep for the jeweler Gurhan disclosed the engagement, but the actor now says someone else crafted the ring he gave Berry.

"There is a jeweler taking credit for doing the ring and it's a lie! They have nothing to do with this," he told the Herald.

The ring, he revealed, was designed by Robert Mazlo of Paris. Martinez told the paper that Mazlo is "a real artist" whose family has designed jewelry for "kings and queens for many centuries."

Mazlo told People the engagement ring "symbolizes the couple's story." The bauble features a 4-carat emerald and two diamonds in a yellow gold setting.

This will be Berry's third marriage. She was married to baseball player David Justice in the 1990s and wed singer Eric Benet in 2001 (they split in 2003, the divorce was finalized in 2005). She also has a 3-year-old daughter, Nahla, from her relationship with Gabriel Aubry.
