NC man with "666" tattoo on face charged with murder

DUCK, N.C. -- A homeless man -- tattooed with "666" over his left eyebrow -- has been charged with first degree murder after allegedly stabbing another homeless man at a church in the Outer Banks on Thursday, reported CBS affiliate WTVR.

The victim, pronounced dead at 8:40 at the local hospital, was 61-year-old George Henry Provost, according to another CBS affiliate, WTKR. Police say 53-year-old William Everett Long got into an argument with the victim, grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him.

The suspect's numeric tattoo, "666," is commonly associated with Satan or the Devil in popular culture.

The stabbing happened at the Duck United Methodist Church, according to the station. Police were dispatched to the church, which was serving as a homeless shelter, early Thursday morning, according to a statement from the town.

Police told reporters that the motive was still unclear. Long is being held without bail.

The church released a statement to WTKR saying that "In the midst of this tragedy, we remain prayerful."
