Norah O'Donnell on women who "exemplify the very best"
Summer has officially started as my kids just finished school. I am already thinking about their future and the camps I have yet to sign up for!
But this morning I was inspired by the women we highlighted on our show. Women who reminded me that despite the to-do lists that never seem to get done, there are women across this country who inspire and exemplify the very best of what women do every day.
Take for instance the story of Stephanie Culley whose best friend, Beth Laitkep, a single mom, died of breast cancer. She made her a promise that she would take care of her six kids. Our Dana Jacobson helped tell her story including sweet moments like when Laitkep's 14-year-old daughter Selena said her new house "feels like home."
I was overwhelmed by Culley's compassion and generosity. We would all be grateful to have a friend who would do the same for us.
On another note, Jamie Wax highlighted the powerful women of the hit Broadway show "Hamilton." Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo and Jasmine Cephas Jones portray the Schuyler sisters -- daughters of Philip Schuyler, the Revolutionary War general and later U.S. senator from New York.
You have to watch this piece not only to hear the great music of "Hamilton," but to hear how they formed a lifelong friendship that will last long after their hit show.
