NYFW: Gareth Pugh at Lexus Design Disrupted event

Last Thursday marked the beginning of New York Fashion Week and clothing designer Gareth Pugh, 33, was one of the first to kick off the festivities at the Lexus Design Disrupted event with a unique showcase that featured designs from his spring/summer collection.

The English fashion designer, who first debuted at London Fashion Week in 2005 and has dressed celebs like Lady Gaga, partnered with Lexus and a team of media experts to morph the Lower East Side's Pier 36 into a smoky, light-filled display where guests were presented with a blend of music, dance, art and fashion with live performances and videos that featured dancing models in three installments placed at opposite ends of the space.

There was no official runway for the show, but that didn't stop some attendees who came dressed in jewel-adorned bodysuits, see-through soaked dresses, and other original designs.

A number of bloggers, designers, and fashion enthusiasts mingled as they enjoyed tiny hors d'oeuvres and cocktails before and after the production, while celebrity guests like Sarah Jessica Parker, Tyson Beckford, Adrian Gernier, Amber Valletta and Maggie Gyllenhaal could be spotted giving interviews and enjoying the scene.

Coco Rocha, who performed at last year's Lexus Disrupted event, said it took a lot of work last year to perfect her performance and it appeared that this year was not so different.

"I take my hat off to professional dancers and everyone putting this all together," said Rocha. "There are so many technicians, there's a load of people behind this to put this together and it's quite amazing."

Fashion week will come to an end on Thursday.
