New search for long-missing D.C. girl Relisha Rudd after tip

WASHINGTON --District of Columbia police are conducting a new search for a girl who's been missing for more than two years.

Relisha Rudd was 8 years old and living in a city homeless shelter when she disappeared in March 2014. She was last seen in the company of a janitor at the shelter, Khalil Tatum. After Relisha was reported missing, the body of Tatum's wife was found in a motel, and Tatum was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say they're launching the new search at the National Arboretum in northeast Washington after receiving a tip, reports CBS affiliate WUSA9. The station reports that Police Chief Cathy Lanier wouldn't go into detail and what new information police received.

"It's not uncommon for people to provide information that they've had for long periods of time that they didn't provide initially," Lanier told the station.

Lanier said Wednesday that police will be searching a "pretty extensive area" of the Arboretum over the next two days. The location is near where police have searched for the girl in the past. The search area will include a body of water.

A team of about 60, including K9s, divers, police, and representatives with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are all assisting in the search Wednesday, reports WUSA9.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Washington, D.C. police.
