(CBS/WKMG/AP) ORLANDO, Fla. - The Anthony family's neighbor, Brian Burner, who loaned Casey Anthony a shovel on June 18, 2008, testified Wednesday on day two of Anthony's trial for first degree murder.

Burner said Anthony approached him around 1 p.m. that June day to ask to borrow the shovel, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

"She said she wanted to borrow a shovel to dig up a bamboo root," Burner said, according to the station.

Burner also testified that he saw Anthony's car at the family's home on June 16, the same day her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, was last seen alive. That is also the date the defense says Caylee drowned in the Anthony family pool.

Earlier Wednesday, the defense tried to prevent Burner from taking the stand to testify about the shovel, reports WKMG.

The state began the day by calling three roommates of Anthony's former boyfriend. Cameron Campana testified about his relationship with Anthony as the roommate of Tony Lazzaro, her boyfriend at the time when Caylee went missing.

Campana said he had seen Caylee, but when Anthony slept at his home, Caylee was never with her. He said Anthony never mentioned her daughter being kidnapped.

"She just seemed just the same, nothing had changed. She was happy. She seemed excited about life," he said, the station reports.

Next the state called Nathan Lezniewicz, who slept on Lazarro's couch starting in May 2008. Lezniewicz talked about an evening spent at a nightclub in Orlando with Anthony, who participated in a "hot body" contest several days after Caylee went missing.

"She always seemed to be having a good time. I mean she's not an introvert," Lezniewicz said, reports WKMG.

The state called another man who was staying on Lazarro's couch from April through June 2008, Roy "Clint" House.

House said Caylee would come to the apartment, but when Anthony began staying there regularly in early to mid-June, he stopped seeing the toddler.

"I asked her. 'I haven't seen Caylee in a while, where is she?' She said she was with the nanny," House said, according to the station.

Lastly, the state called the woman who was dating House at the time of Caylee's disappearance, Maria Kissh.

Kissh testified that she was at the apartment several times a week and never saw Caylee. She said Anthony told her Caylee was with a nanny, reports the station.

When asked what Anthony said about Caylee's father, Kiish said, "She told me he was deceased."

Earlier in the day there was a surprise recess due to a lost file by the defense. Judge Belvin Perry warned the attorneys, saying he would hold court on Sundays and have shorter lunch breaks if necessary to move things along in the trial.

The Casey Anthony case was recently reported on by "48 Hours Mystery."
