MTV adapting "Scream" horror movies into TV series

MTV is bringing "Scream" to the small screen.

The network announced Tuesday -- just days before Halloween -- that it is turning the horror movie franchise into a television series. The goal is to put 10 episodes on the air starting next October.

It shared the news on social media by tweeting a cryptic phone number. If you call it, a voice on the other end asks, "Do you like scary TV?"

Jill Blotevogel, who worked on the series "Harper's Island" and "Ravenswood," is the executive producer.

Cast members include Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna and Connor Weil.

The first "Scream" film debuted in 1996. Sequels followed in 1997, 2000 and 2011.
