Missing Md. girl's dad wanted in murder of her mom

DUNDALK, Md. - Authorities have obtained an arrest warrant for the father of a Maryland girl who was reported missing after her mother was found dead, reports CBS Baltimore.

Timothy Virts is wanted in connection with the death of Bobbi Jo Cortez. The 36-year-old Cortez was found dead inside her home in Dundalk Thursday morning. Cortez's 11-year-old daughter, Caitlyn Virts, was nowhere to be found and an Amber Alert was subsequently issued.

Authorities believe Timothy Virts fled the state with his daughter. The search for the two has reportedly expanded into West Virginia, according to the station.

"We have had a violent scene that has left a woman dead. We are not sure what [Timothy Virts] involvement in that may have been and we know he is not supposed to have this child," Elise Armacost, of the Baltimore County Police, said Thursday. "So we have good reason to be concerned about her safety."

Caitlyn also has a twin sister and a brother but authorities say they are safe.

CBS Baltimore reports Timothy Virts has an extensive criminal record that dates back to 1999 and includes charges of domestic violence.

Police have not said how Cortez died, but said she had multiple cut wounds to her upper body, according to the station. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Anyone with information in regards to the whereabouts of Caitlyn or Timothy Virts is asked to call 911 or the Baltimore County Police Department at 410-887-2020.

Caitlyn is described as being about 5 feet tall, weighing 80 pounds and possibly wearing glasses. Timothy Virts is described as being about 6'3" and weighing 280 pounds.

Police believe Timothy Virts is driving a black Dodge Durango bearing Maryland license plate number: 5AJ4458. The car is registered to Daniel Cortez, the victim's husband, who is currently in jail on charges he sexually abused a minor, reports the station.
