It looks like Brie Larson may be following up her Best Actress Oscar win with a move into the world of superheroes.

The "Room" star is said to be in talks with Marvel Studios to take on the lead role in "Captain Marvel," according to Variety. Sources said it is unclear where the actress and the studio are as far as negotiations, but Larson is believed to be Marvel's first choice for the role.

Captain Marvel is one of the comic book publisher's most popular female heroes and the first woman to headline her own Marvel film, due out July 6, 2018. The film will tell the story of Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who becomes Captain Marvel after her DNA is fused with an alien's during an accident that gives her superpowers.

Marvel had no comment on the story, and a director has yet to be hired for the project, though the writers of "Inside Out" are currently at work on the script.

Emily Blunt was rumored to be a prospect for the role around the time the project was first announced.
