Man seriously hurt after falling into "deep hole" in Charlotte

A North Carolina man was hospitalized with serious injuries after falling into a deep, narrow hole, CBS affiliate WBTV in Charlotte reports.

The Charlotte Fire Department said that officials were called to the scene near the University of North Carolina Charlotte campus early Wednesday morning for a "confined space rescue."

Medical personnel say a helicopter was initially called to the scene after the man "fell into a deep hole," WBTV reported.

According to the fire department, it took about 20 minutes to get the man from inside the hole, which they estimate was seven feet deep.

The man was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, WBTV reported.
