Man robbed Subway because "Jared diet" failed him, cops say

HUEYTOWN, Ala. - An Alabama man accused of robbing several Subway restaurants told investigators he committed the crimes because the "Jared diet" didn't work for him, authorities say, according to CBS affiliate WIAT.

Zachary Torrance, 18, of Fairfield, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree robbery. He is suspected of robbing Subway restaurants in Hueytown, Midfield and Birmingham.

Police say Torrance told them he robbed the restaurants because the diet made famous by customer -- and pitchman -- Jared Fogle, wasn't working, so he wanted his money back.

Torrance is accused of trying to steal it back.

Fogle claimed he lost hundreds of pounds eating just Subway sandwiches.

Torrance, by contrast, was being held in the Hueytown Jail on $250,000 bond.
