Man, now murder suspect, reports toddler missing in 911 audio

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – Police have released the 911 audio in which a North Carolina man, now a murder suspect, reports three-year-old Jordan Dumont missing, reports CBS affiliate WBTV.

Remains found Tuesday morning during a search were identified as the child, according to police. She was reported missing by her mother’s boyfriend, William “Skip” McCullen, Monday.

The 25-year-old was charged with first degree murder in the death of the 3-year-old Tuesday afternoon.

The 911 caller’s name is redacted from the audio recording, but police have identified the caller as McCullen, WBTV reports. In the call placed around 3:30 p.m. Monday, McCullen identified himself as the girl’s father, according to the station.

“Yes ma’am, my oldest daughter – I was taking a nap and I just woke up and I can’t find her anywhere. I have a newborn with me too – a 1-year-old and I got her and I can’t find the other one,” he said to the dispatcher.

The dispatcher then suggested that he go look under the beds. A brief silence can be heard as the man, on a corded phone, says he is looking for her, according to WBTV.

“She’s not here,” McCullen says, crying. “My wife’s at work – she’s about to be home and I don’t know where my daughter is,” the man said.

He then said the door was wide open, according to the station.

“Please come out! I don’t know if she’s just hiding or what,” McCullen said, as the dispatcher told him to go search the home again.

“My wife’s at work - she’s about to be home and I don’t know where my daughter is,” McCullen says.

After receiving the call, authorities launched a massive search for the girl. But the search was soon called off when the remains were located. Investigators believe that the girl’s body was placed in the area in which she was found, the station reports.

The other child who was in the home with McCullen was reportedly unharmed.

Police say this isn’t the first time police have been called to Dumont’s home. There have reportedly been 49 calls for service to that home in the past three years, with some of those calls being for domestic-related incidents.

No bond was set for McCullen, who appeared in court Wednesday, according to the station. His next court date has been set for September 6.
